Support For Higher Ocean Liability Rates

NITL was represented at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law which has been meeting to reforumlate rules governing the loss and damage of international freight.

According to the US trade association, most governments appear to support an increase in package limitsThe proposed limits are substantially higher than the US Carriage of Goods by Sea Act (COGSA) which has been in place since 1936COGSA, explains NITL, is based on an international convention, the Hague RulesThe Hague Rules were first adopted in 1924.

Subsequent conventions have been adopted by several countries-with the exception of the US.
The UN working group has been meeting since 2002 and has one remaining session scheduled for January.
