Hutchinson Whampoa, the world’s largest port operator, has begun a $200 million expansion of the south western Mexican port of Lazaro Cardenas which will raise the port’s container capacity of 100,000 twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) to 700,000 TEUs in 2007 and then further increase that capacity to 2 million TEUs.
