Citrix Systems Inc., a provider of access infrastructure solutions, has announced an implementation success with the U.S. Army's Logistics Modernization Program (LMP).

Last July, the LMP went live with a Citrix solution, processing between 60,000 and 70,000 transactions per day. The solution enables the Army to focus more resources on war fighting elements, while reducing the length and complexity of the supporting logistics chain.

Managed by prime contractor Computer Sciences Corp., the first phase of LMP incorporates more than 4,000 users at facilities around the globe, bridging 30 year-old legacy systems and current commercial enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite and Citrix MetaFrame XP Presentation Server enable the geographically disperse end-users to execute transactions on a variety of platform-agnostic workstations.

"Citrix access infrastructure centralizes the critical applications and information and facilitates secure, global access from any number of computing environments," says Chris Colen, a CSC vice president and the LMP program manager. "Citrix provides the maintenance benefits of standards-based computing without demanding the up-front investment in new hardware for the whole system. Using a centralized structure and platform-agnostic client software, we dramatically reduce the total cost of implementation, operation and upkeep."

When completed, LMP will be one of the largest ERP implementations in the world. The system provides the U.S. Army Materiel Command (USAMC) with a modern, collaborative environment that helps the command concentrate on its core functions and make rapid, timely decisions. Deployment of LMP is a key component of the Army's transformation initiative and will create measurable improvements in Army readiness.
