Maritime Conference Recognizes Coast Guard and Dow Chemical for Security Efforts
The Fifth U.S. Maritime Security Conference and Exposition—currently taking place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York—named Admiral Thad Allen, commandant of the United States Coast Guard, and the Dow Chemical Company as the 2006 recipients of its Distinguished Leadership Awards in Maritime and Supply Chain Security.
"Admiral Allen leads the United States Coast Guard, which is simply the best at what it does. Without the dedicated professionals who serve in it, virtually every government and commercial element of maritime transportation would be much less safe,” said Michael Rosenberg, vice president of E.J. Krause's Security Division, organizer of the maritime security event. “Similarly, Dow is responsible for the secure transportation of a myriad of supply chain goods for an array of global industries. They take their responsibility seriously, and their maritime and supply chain security is among the very best in the world."
The Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes government and a private sector efforts to keep maritime transportation secure from terrorism, piracy and other threats. The selection committee is comprised of representatives of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the Maritime Security Exposition and Conference Advisory Board and the State Assemblies for Emergency Response (SAFE).
"At Dow, we take a fully integrated approach to security by evaluating and addressing all aspects of security, and do so in collaboration with our supply chain partners," said Veurink. He believes that a close government-private sector partnership is crucial to maritime and supply chain security.
