The Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) has added online learning to its mix of education tools for the logistics industry.

According to the group, by presenting online courses that are strictly focused on warehouse activities and planning, WERC leverages its experience providing high-quality, in-depth knowledge for all aspects of distribution management.

The courses are designed for various experience levels. Managers can learn or brush up on management topics as well as offer associates, supervisors and up-and-coming managers foundational courses and introductions to management topics, said WERC.

Seven topics are currently available. Five were developed by WERC. Two are offered in partnership with the Logistics Institute of Canada. They include:

  • Careers in Distribution
  • Pallet Storage Systems
  • Reverse Logistics: The Basics
  • Cycle Counting
  • Supervising in the Warehouse
  • Warehousing & Distribution
  • Inventory Management

WERC will continue to expand its offerings by adding courses on an ongoing basis. The courses have been priced from $45 to $135 to maximize accessibility for all warehouse employees. “Careers in Distribution” is free.

“We asked WERC members and found a hunger for training specifically focused on the warehouse, even among companies that have internal ‘universities.’ These managers said WERC warehousing training would be a valuable addition to corporate training on general topics,” said Robert L. Shaunnessey, WERC’s executive director. “We’re excited to offer more tools to improve the professionalism and performance in distribution workplaces for all levels of employees.”

Online courses allow managers and employees flexibility related to study time and location, and course duration, coupled with low cost and no need to travel or miss work.
