OAK BROOK, Ill.—Robert L. Shaunnessey announced his retirement from the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC), effective Aug. 31.
Shaunnessey has been the association’s executive director since November 2003. Michael J. Mikitka, CMP, CAE, has been named interim executive director.
“Bob has been a great asset to our organization,” said Mark B. Cleveland, president of WERC’s board of directors. “Under his leadership, WERC has improved its ability to fulfill our mission to ‘advance the art and science of warehousing.’ We will surely miss him but wish him the best in his next adventures.”
Shaunnessey was a founder and partner of third-party logistics provider Sterling Logistics Corp. Earlier in his career, he served as president and CEO of Records Management Services, president of Midwest distribution for ITEL-GATX and executive vice president, finance and administration, with DSC Logistics.
“There’s no better resource for learning and relationship building,” Shaunnessey says. “The people in the distribution community are the best in the world. I’ve had the opportunity to know and work with many of them, and through WERC, to contribute to the positive evolution of the industry. But, now, it’s time to turn the page, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter.”
