CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) received an outstanding business partnership award from the Rock Hill, S.C., School District.
The award recognizes MHIA’s service in promoting material handling and logistics educational programming in high schools and technical institutes.
In Rock Hill, MHIA worked with the Material Handling Education Foundation Inc. (MHEFI) and local companies, such as West Marine, Ross Industries, State Farm Insurance, Black & Decker and U.S. Foods, to give students the opportunity to pursue careers in the material handling and logistics industry.
As a result, the Rock Hill Schools Applied Technology Center established the “Don Frazier Warehousing Training Program,” which will launch in the 2008-2009 academic year. The entry-level educational program for 93 high school students will include the creation of a 4,000-square foot working warehouse and education center. The program is named after Don Frazier, founder of Frazier Industrial Co.
“The work done to establishment the Rock Hill training center is just the beginning,” says Allan Howie, MHIA’s director of continuing education and professional development. “Plans are already underway to duplicate this program in high schools, technical schools and community colleges across the country in order to get this important training for manufacturing and distribution jobs where it is most needed.”
