IKEA recently announced plans to install PV solar panels this summer at its Perryville, Maryland and Westampton, New Jersey, distribution centers, according to a report from Green Chip Stocks.
These projects, said to be the largest commercial rooftop solar installations in the nation, will result in 89% of the company's locations being solar powered.
The power generated at the two DCs will have a combined capacity of 4.92 MW. IKEA will own and operate its PV solar systems rather than enter into a PPA or a solar lease. When these two new systems are installed, it will bring IKEA’s tally up to 19 solar energy systems operational in the U.S., with another 20 in various stages of completion.
“These plans for installing solar panels on the roofs of two additional distribution centers demonstrate our sustainable commitment extends beyond just stores, into all facets of the retail operations,” said IKEA’s U.S. president Mike Ward.
