HK Systems, Inc. (Milwaukee), a supplier of automated material handling and supply chain software, announced it has been selected by The New York Times to provide a bundle handling system and complete insert management software solution. The project is a part of the College Point facility expansion and will include conveyor, controls and overall systems integration of the bundle handling and palletizing system.
The flexible and cost-effective bundle handling solution will convey bundles from 11 tie-lines (5 ROP and 6 Insert) to six Schur palletizers providing multiple bundle paths for complete redundancy. HK Systems’ material flow solution will also allow the newspaper publisher to redirect bundles from the existing mailroom tilt-tray system to the College Point expansion.
In addition, HK Systems will provide its material tracking and control (MTC) software system to ensure complete inventory accountability and control of freestanding inserts (FSI) and packages. The system will manage all FSI pallet movement from receiving through delivery to inserters and palletized packages to delivery trucks. The radio-frequency-based MTC will be installed at a New York Times’ offsite FSI warehouse as well as the College Point facility.
