TMHU Says Arbor Day Foundation Partnership Will Help Plant 57,000 Trees

IRVINE, Calif.–Toyota Material Handling USA Inc. (TMHU) announced that it will contribute to the planting of 57,000 trees by the end of this year through its partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.

The trees will be planted in national forests and local parks damaged by fire or other natural causes. The company has committed to donating one tree for every Toyota lift truck sold in 2008 and one tree for every Toyota 8-Series lift truck sold in 2007. TMHU is also holding planting events with its dealers and associates.

“Putting an emphasis on the environment always has been an integral part of our corporate philosophy, and planting trees with the help of our customers, dealers and associates is a rewarding way to make a positive impact on our future,” says Brett Wood, president of TMHU. “Through our products, manufacturing processes and community involvement, we have strived to push forward a global environmental charter. Toyota will continue to push the boundaries of developing innovative technologies and products that are not only socially responsible but also economically viable.”

In 2005, Toyota Industries Corp. created an Environmental Action Plan, which has resulted in some 1,700 energy-saving measures. The company’s sustainability initiatives are also supported by efforts such as its hybrid concept lift truck, which made its debut at ProMat this year.
