NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Bridgestone/Firestone announced that its Warren County plant received the 2008 Governor’s Environmental Stewardship award for the company’s pollution prevention efforts.
One of these efforts includes the use of hydrogen-powered fuel cells in automated guided vehicles. The tiremaker also reduced the amount of mercury lighting used in the plant and installed water-conserving fixtures in restrooms.
In addition, employees of the Warren County facility regularly advise other Bridgestone facilities about the use of environmentally friendly technologies.
The Governor’s Environmental Stewardship award recognizes exemplary voluntary actions that improve or protect the environment and natural resources. This marks the 22nd year for the awards program. Thirty-nine professionals from public and private organizations judged more than 100 nominations to determine the award recipients.
