Psion Teklogix (LSE:PON), a global provider of solutions for mobile computing, wireless data collection, imaging and RFID, is continuing to enhance the multimedia data capture capabilities of its WORKABOUT PRO product line by implementing three new RFID data collection options. These options address a broad spectrum of RFID capabilities and support major industry standard tag protocols.

The entire WORKABOUT PRO product line now enables customers to choose from three RFID readers: two 13.56MHz high-frequency RFID readers and a 125-134 KHz low frequency RFID reader. The high-frequency reader options enable the support of a wide range of protocols, including: ISO15693, Philips I-Code(TM), TI Tag-It(TM), Tagsys, ISO 14443 type A & B, and Mifare (TM). The flexibility of the high frequency RFID reader enables it to be used for asset tracking or closed-loop supply chain logistics applications as well as smart card applications with Mifare support. The low frequency RFID reader is most commonly used in for asset tracking in metallic or high moisture environments.

"Our goal is to make the WORKABOUT PRO product line a collection of the most flexible mobile computing devices available today, and these new RFID options fit with that commitment," said Ron Caines, vice president of marketing, Psion Teklogix Inc. "Psion Teklogix is dedicated to enhancing our product portfolio with new capabilities that meet the growing demand from our customers and partners. RFID technology is expanding across many markets - global shipments are expected to reach $5.9 billion by 2008(i) - and we are focused on helping customers plan for the future to meet these evolving marketplace requirements."

Psion Teklogix' WORKABOUT PRO line is designed to be flexible so that any device equipped an RFID reader can also be configured with other data capture capabilities such as laser bar code scanning or imaging technologies. This enables customers to integrate multimedia data capture capabilities within a single device.

The WORKABOUT PRO is a rugged hand-held computer with the power to run advanced applications to meet the needs of the enterprise user. It delivers reliable performance in harsh environments, and is able to withstand multiple drops from a height of four feet onto concrete. This rugged design enables it to meet customers' real-time communications needs in almost any work situation. The WORKABOUT PRO S delivers the same customization capabilities, expansion, task-specific ergonomics, and radio and data input options as the WORKABOUT PRO but in a more compact form factor. With its colour touch-screen and scanner options, the WORKABOUT PRO S is ideally suited for signature-capture and barcode scanning in direct-to-store delivery, transportation and logistics, retail, field service and other mobile applications.

The WORKABOUT PRO RFID is available to global customers today.
