ORLANDO—CHEP, a supplier of shipping pallets and containers, has met the fire rating requirements for its four-way entry wood pallets, according to Factory Mutual Research Corporation. Factory Mutual is a testing lab and division of Factory Mutual Global Insurance.
Until recently, wood pallets with composite blocks were not required to be listed as meeting a product standard, as they were previously defined as being wooden products. Due to new requirements, however, wood pallets are now subject to a product standard previously only applicable to plastic pallets.
The FM Global product listing meets the requirements of the new language in NFPA 13-2007, and states that no upgrade in sprinkler protection is required in manufacturing and shipping facilities solely as a result of the use of CHEP’s pallets.
