EPCglobal Inc. has awarded its Performance Test Center Accreditation mark to Alien Technology Corp.'s (Morgan Hill, Calif.) the Alien RFID Solution Center in Dayton. EPCglobal is the not-for-profit organization whose mission is to drive the commercial adoption of the Electronic Product Code (EPC) in global supply chains.

The Accreditation Mark signifies that the Alien RFID Solution Center has successfully completed the EPCglobal Performance Test Center Audit and that it uses a standard set of performance test profiles to simulate real-world conditions in testing the readability of end-user products that are tagged with the Electronic Product Code. In successfully completing the audit, the Alien RFID Solutions Center is now accredited to provide RFID-tagged unit performance testing services in dynamic conveyor and dock door portal environments, in order to provide organizations with the assurance of a uniform level of readability for their tagged items across the supply chain.

“As an accredited Performance Test Center, the Alien RFID Solution Center is able to perform conveyor and dock door RFID performance, or readability, testing for customers and partners, and certify the results,” said Damon Bramble, general manager, RFID Solutions Center, Dayton. “We are pleased to provide this kind of trusted testing environment to help companies accelerate their RFID implementations, and are already engaged in conducting our first accredited tag placement exercises.”

“We want to make it easy for end users to ensure that their tagged shipments can be read before sending them through their global supply chains,” said Chris Adcock, president of EPCglobal Inc. “The EPCglobal Performance Test Center Accreditation Program will help end users be assured that an accredited third party has established that these shipments can be read.”

The RFID Solutions Center Dayton, a division of Alien Technology, is dedicated to driving RFID technology innovation and adoption of RFID solutions worldwide through collaboration with RFID end-users, key participants in the RFID industry, and academic institutions focused on RFID research and application. Infrastructure and equipment at the center enable technical services and applications engineering teams to simulate key stages in “real world” supply chains, and work closely with RFID customers to evaluate, design, specify, and deploy RFID systems. The center’s simulated environment, which includes shipping dock doors, material handling equipment and conveyors, shipping stations, a store backroom and a retail store floor, offers a comprehensive engineering laboratory and educational RFID environment.
