Vendor News: World Wide Technology Improves Warehouse Operations with Mobile Computers and Services
World Wide Technology, Inc. (WWT, St. Louis, Mo.), a systems integrator, selected Symbol Technologies, Inc.’s (Holtsville, N.Y.) enterprise mobility solution for its warehouses and distribution facilities throughout the United States to improve worker productivity and increase device manageability. WWT is using Symbol’s MC9060-K rugged mobile computers and Mobility Services Platform (MSP) to capture, move, and manage mission critical data to enhance its warehouse operations.
WWT provides technology and supply chain solutions to the commercial, government and telecommunication sectors. The company employs more than 900 people and operates over 1.3 million sq. ft. of warehousing, distribution and integration space in 19 facilities nationwide.
With Symbol’s MC9060-K mobile computers, WWT expects employees to efficiently capture the detail of boxes containing IT and telecommunications products as they move through the warehouse to shipment. The mobile computers allow for real-time visibility into inventory and also eliminate the need for constant scanner repositioning and multiple scans, as was previously necessary.
“The Symbol MC9060-K significantly improved employee productivity, data quality, and process efficiency while also providing the superior ruggedness that is essential in any warehouse environment,” said Craig Frederking, director of IT operations for WWT. “We combined the mobile computers with Symbol’s MSP to help us tackle the challenges associated with deploying, managing and maintaining a mobile enterprise.”
Symbol's MSP software manages mobile devices, applications and wireless infrastructure from one central location. WWT’s administrators can quickly configure and deploy devices remotely and cost effectively. With MSP, the time and costs WWT associated with initial and ongoing device deployment were dramatically reduced.
