Imation Corp. (Oakdale, Minn.), a manufacturer of removable data storage, officially opened its new Southaven, Miss., distribution center. The 364,000-sq.-ft. facility will serve Imation customers across North America.
"The opening of our new Southaven Distribution Center marks another important milestone in the successful integration of Memorex and Imation operations," said Bruce Henderson, Imation chairman and CEO. "In Southaven, we will continue our transformation to a lean enterprise by implementing an efficient, cost-effective and flexible distribution system."
With the opening of the Southaven Distribution Center at industrial real estate developer IDI's Stateline Business Park, Imation will consolidate its former Memorex brand distribution centers in Winchester, Va.; Ontario, Calif.; and Collierville, Tenn.; along with Imation's former Kansas City, Mo., operation into one, streamlined facility. Imation completed its acquisition of Memorex in May 2006. The Southaven Distribution Center will serve as the company's national hub for distributing its magnetic tapes, diskettes, CDs, DVDs, flash products and removable hard disk drives.
"In Southaven, we have established distribution operations for our consumer and commercial/OEM customers together under one roof," said Imation's chief operating officer and executive vice president Frank Russomanno.
With more than 15 years combined Imation and 3M experience, Facility Manager Michael Shaw will lead the 65-person Southaven team. Located less than 10 minutes from Memphis, the distribution center is outfitted with 35 dock doors and can be expanded to meet increased customer demand. The distribution center will be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2006.
