Jail Industries Board Recognizes Papé Material Handling for Social Investment

March 5, 2010
Papé Material Handling Inc. announces it is the first recipient of the Washington State Jail Industries Board’s (JIB) 2009 Civic Champion Award, which recognizes a company’s commitment to social investment.

In addition, Ken Pollard, Papé’s general manager for the company’s Wenatchee, Yakima and tri-cities locations, received the Washington Correctional Association’s 2009 Citizen’s Award.

Papé’s Yakima branch donated a lift truck to the Yakima County jail and provided service and regular maintenance for the truck for three years. The jail uses the lift truck to conduct a job training program to help inmates find employment after they’re released.

“It was amazing to me that Ken immediately understood the need and promised to take our request to the company leadership,” says Dean Mason, executive director of JIB. “Ken not only understood our desire to obtain a lift truck, he intuitively recognized the importance of incarcerated individuals receiving training that has the potential to end the cycle of those individuals returning to jail time and again.”

Papé distributes Hyster lift trucks, Ingersoll-Rand telescopic material handlers, Genie aerial personnel lifts, Mariotti narrow-aisle lift trucks, CombiLift multi-directional lift trucks and other material handling equipment.
