EVERETT, Wash., - Intermec Technologies Corp. announced a partnership with Wavelink Corp. to provide device management capabilities for a range of network devices including Intermec bar code printers, wireless access points, scanners and mobile computers, beginning in Q3 2003. Wavelink's Avalanche(tm) mobile device management software allows customers with multiple network devices to upgrade and configure device software remotely, saving the time and cost of manual, one-at-a-time upgrades. The remote management capabilities eliminate the need for workers to physically "dock" devices, greatly increasing user efficiency while reducing the total cost of ownership.

Because the software and enablers will be pre-loaded, Intermec customers will need only to purchase a software license to activate the device management system. The system also will be available for current Intermec customers.

"As companies embrace mobile technologies for new efficiencies, the need to contain costs while supporting an ever-expanding base of mobile users and devices becomes a huge challenge for IT professionals," said Gemma Paulo, senior analyst at In-Stat/MDR. "The Intermec and Wavelink partnership addresses an important opportunity by making mass deployments of wireless devices a manageable, cost effective and secure process for business."

"Intermec devices are known throughout the industry as rugged, reliable workhorses," said Dick Mahany, Intermec vice president of products. "The addition of Wavelink Avalanche software to our products means that the return on investment our customers experience is even greater than before. Avalanche device management software makes it easy for customers to implement, maintain and secure all their barcode printers, scanners and mobile computers. The ability to upgrade software on all devices, without so much as touching them, will be a huge benefit to our customers."

"Avalanche software complements Intermec mobile computers and other wireless and wired devices, reducing the total cost of ownership by making them easier to deploy and manage," said Dave Bullis, president and chief executive of Wavelink. "Customers now will have visibility to all different types of devices while remotely providing software and configuration updates through any type of connection. Our partnership with Intermec, a company long recognized as a champion of industrial wireless technology, is a terrific endorsement of how Avalanche can help companies with multiple types of mobile devices control and manage support costs."
