AT&T wants to make the world a healthier place. To that end last week the company announced its goal which is to enable carbon savings 10 times the footprint of its operations by 2025.

The company will achieve this goal by enhancing the efficiency of its network and delivering low-carbon customer solutions. It will engage with customers, companies and non-governmental organizations on tactics to drive reductions in emissions and increases in resource efficiency to achieve this carbon savings.

This goal is part of the company’s Connect to Good program. “ his program represents our company’s vision of using the power of our network to build a better tomorrow,” said Charlene Lake, senior vice president – corporate social responsibility and chief sustainability officer, AT&T. “Our technology will guide us as we work with our employees, customers, suppliers and communities to fulfill our goals.”

AT&T’s supply chain goals  include:

  • By 2020, lead our supply chain to improve its social and environmental impacts by integrating sustainability performance metrics into our sourcing decisions for 80% of our spend.
  • By the end of 2018, incorporate sustainability-oriented standards or analyses into our sourcing decisions with strategic suppliers.
  • Establish clear industry sustainability metrics and promote their use in sourcing, and develop and follow an industry roadmap for truly sustainable performance.

“As the information and communication technology (ICT) sector grows, it has a particularly crucial role to play in addressing its own sustainability impacts and in using its products to power global progress,” said Dunstan Allison-Hope, Managing Director, Advisory Services, BSR.
