Crown Equipment Corp. is shattering its traditional market perception with the unveiling of a new internal combustion (IC) lift truck.

Since the company’s inception more than 50 years ago, the lift truck manufacturer has been known for manufacturing electric material handling equipment. Today, the company announces its foray into the IC industrial vehicle market.

The 2.4-liter industrial engine in the new Crown C-5 series lift truck was jointly developed with John Deere Power Systems and features a cast-iron head and robust components designed to prevent overheating and extend service intervals, says the company.

Standard features include a dual open-core radiator with separate cooling systems for the engine and transmission. End users can select an on-demand cooling (ODC) option that helps to manage heat in tough, dirty environments. Each time the Crown C-5 starts, the ODC system’s radiator-clearing feature reverses the fan direction to dislodge debris. The ODC system adjusts fan speed based on engine temperature, and the strategic placement of the fan improves cooling efficiency by pulling air evenly through the radiator, according to Crown.

The new lift truck also features a Crown-designed FlexSeat to improve operator comfort, an interlock feature that stops the forks and masts from rising above free lift, standard power brake systems on the C-5 6,000 and 6,500-pound models, the Crown Access 1 2 3 control system and eSmart fuel tracking technology.
