SEATTLE--Oct. 21, 2003--Baker Petrolite, a division of Baker Hughes Incorporated and the world's leader in providing chemical technology solutions to the global hydrocarbon recovery and processing industries, has again chosen SCO Logistics' Transportation Execution Center (TEC) featuring the ShipLogix transportation management system (TMS) to provide optimization and international freight execution in a continued effort to drive logistics productivity.

Baker Petrolite has successfully used the TEC since 2001 to improve shipment visibility and overall communications among its domestic inbound carrier network. Building upon this success, Baker Petrolite is now relying on SCO Logistics and ShipLogix to better manage its domestic and international outbound freight, implement web-hosted optimization tools and integrate with its Materials Resource Planning (MRP) system. Using the TEC platform, SCO and ShipLogix were able to quickly offer this added functionality. Baker Petrolite now has complete inbound and outbound visibility that enables the company to be more efficient in its manufacturing process, better meet customer demand for product and improve process control.

The TEC provides Baker Petrolite with a single view for shipment tendering, track and trace, proactive alerts, status updates and proof of delivery notification - enabling the company to more effectively plan, execute and measure transportation activity and collaborate online with its global trading partners in real time. The solution provides visibility to all inbound and outbound shipments and incorporates a single event inventory system that date and time stamps each critical event.

In addition to realizing substantial cost savings, Baker Petrolite's logistics team has also achieved significant productivity by allowing them to specifically:

-- Enable real-time communication with all of its carriers through the easy-to-use web-based system - and eliminate the use of faxes.

-- Reduce telephone traffic thus eliminating potential miscommunications.

-- Drive online coordination to reduce the chaos of shipment tracking and drive carrier productivity. This also met the company's need to ensure safe transportation of their product by producing clear, concise shipping documentation and product handling instructions.

-- Create a database to inventory all logistics events so that the department can gain a better understanding of what events are occurring and look for patterns and opportunities for continued process improvement.

-- Improve the productivity of scarce IT resources.

"SCO Logistics and ShipLogix continue to provide us with a tailorable capability that strongly supports our strategic direction," commented Bruce Nied, Baker Petrolite's Director of Logistics. "The system requires minimal IT resources, time and attention, and that's definitely a benefit to us."

"In Baker Petrolite, we have yet another example of the strong partnership between SCO Logistics and ShipLogix," explained Alan Van Boven, CEO of ShipLogix. "Our technology and SCO Logistics' extraordinary domain and enterprise depth in the chemical industry vertical further validates our strategy of building channel partnerships with industry leaders to drive the market traction of our software."

SCO Logistics managed the implementation and provides strategic consulting and first-level support, while ShipLogix provides second-level technical support, optimization set-up and analysis, communications support and database administration.
