The unmanned aerial vehicle industry could create more than 100,000 U.S. jobs, with an economic impact of $82 billion within 10 years, according to a study prepared for the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International.

The popularity of unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as UAVs or drones, is driving one of the nation's fastest-growing industries. 

The unmanned aerial vehicle industry could create more than 100,000 U.S. jobs, with an economic impact of $82 billion within 10 years, according to a study prepared for the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International. Those positions will include everything from computer software development to engineering, manufacturing and piloting.

This field has already attracted investments from Google Inc., General Electric Co. and Qualcomm Inc. despite privacy and safety concerns.
