For Maverick, this is an expansion of its services to include glass-hauling capabilities. To now Maverick has focused on delivering flatbed transportation and logistics services. With its headquarters in Little Rock, AR, it operates 1,170 units in 48 states and has terminals in Gary, IN; Madison, IL; Jarrat, VA; Scottsboro, AL; Mangum, OK and Fort Smith, AR where its warehouse facilities are located.

Assets to be acquired by Maverick include 380 tractors, 870 trailers, more than 425 drivers and independent contractors as well as 80 offices and maintenance associates. There are key operations for the division in Knoxville, TN and Laurinburg, NC, although Maverick Specialized will operate from the former Schneider location in Green Bay, WI.

Schneider notes its aim in this transaction is to enable the company to turn its energies more toward the strategy of developing global transportation and solutions for multinational Fortune 1000 companies. A concern of Schneider’s in divesting itself of its Specialized Division was to find a company that would provide its workers with good career opportunities. Maverick chairman and CEO, Steve Williams, says, “Schneider is the leader in the specialized glass transportation industry, and the addition of their knowledge, expertise and overall capabilities will be a strong complement to our existing flatbed transportation services. Maverick Specialized plans to retain all Schneider Specialized drivers, shop, and office associates and looks forward to a successful future as they join our team.”

The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of July.
