The auto-sort system at DHL’s 262,000-square-foot Riverside, Calif. facility allows the carrier better visibility throughout the handling process, permitting it to offer greater track and trace capabilities. The $160 million investment also helped improve throughput of packages by 28% and letters by 67%.
The upgrade includes shoe-sort and tilt-tray systems, loaders and unloaders, singulators, dimensional and image scanners, scan tunnels and video coding.
The upgraded facility can process 50,000 pieces per hour.
