Moves into the southern region increased in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. United based the report on 198,571 interstate household moves it conducted in 2002. Following North Carolina, which had 59.9% inbound moves, South Carolina had 59.6% inbound moves, and Florida registered 57.6% of the moves inbound. Other states registered higher percentages of inbound moves on lower volumes of moves. California had the most moves with 43,694 total inbound and outbound, followed by Texas with 31,630 moves. The first Class I SteelNet facility in the Atlanta area opened through the collaboration of Collier Metals LLC-provider of coil processing and distribution services to the metals industry---and Norfolk Southern (NS) Railway Co. The 88,000 square foot facility is operated by Collier and is adjacent to the NS rail yard as will as within easy proximity of three major Interstates. A new service center in Sylvester, GA, located on 7 acres, with 30 doors, replaces a Tifton, GA, 15-door center for LTL carrier, Old Dominion Freight Line Inc.
