Suppliers of a variety of products and services are increasingly promoting offerings to help ease the strain of ever-rising fuel costs.

The IntelliRouteFuel module integrates with Rand McNally's (www.randmcnally.com) IntelliRoute mileage and routing product. Using fuel data and optimization technology from FuelAdvice.com, IntelliRouteFuel users receive daily updates containing current nationwide fuel pricing. Web-based, the service generates a fuel plan indicating how much fuel a given truck should purchase at each stop along its route. The program makes use of surcharge data and available fuel rebates.

"Having an optimized fuel and route plan at the time of dispatch can help fleet owners offset diesel price increases and save more than $1,000 per truck per year," claims Rand McNally's Commercial Transportation director of sales, Bernie Hockswender.

John Fershtand, Director of Fleet Operations for Ben E. Keith Foods, a major food distributor, explains why his company has chosen to implement FuelQuest (www.fuelquest.com). "It allows us to not only streamline our fuel management but provides unparalleled visibility into our operations from fuel sourcing options to excise tax reconciliation."

FuelQuest provides on-demand web-based supply chain management and tax automation technologies. With the program in place, Ben E. Keith expects to centralize and aggregate its fuel spend, reduce exposure to fuel supply and price volatility and increase transparency with fuel purchase, transport and taxes.
