As announced last fall, William D. “Bill” Zollars, chairman, president and CEO, has retired from less-than-truckload giant YRC Worldwide Inc., coincident with the announcement of the company’s financial restructuring. Incoming chairman will be James Hoffman, former president of Alliant Energy Resources. The new CEO will be a familiar face at YRC headquarters: James Welch, former president and CEO of Yellow Transportation, the predecessor to YRC Worldwide in the pre-Roadway days.
Welch has more than 30 years of experience in the transportation sector, many of those at the senior executive level. He most recently served as president and CEO of Dynamex Inc., a provider of same-day transportation and logistics services. Welch began his career with Yellow at the age of 23 and worked his way up to the position of president and CEO (2000-2007).
The company also announced that it plans to conduct a reverse-stock split, its second such split in the past year.
